A New Home
Dear Associated Church Family and Friends,
"I will always hope in you and
add to all your praise. My mouth shall proclaim your
just deeds; day after day your acts of deliverance,
through I can't remember them all, I will speak of the mighty
work of the
Lord!"
Psalm 71: 14-16
Over the past 18 years, the Associated Churches has grown in
both membership and in our oneness in the faith that we find
TOGETHER in Christ Jesus. We have grown from 70 to125
member congregations and faith based agencies. Our ability
to come together in Christian Unity, grow together through times
of prayer, praise, and education of the children, and continue
to show the compassion of Jesus Christ in feeding the poor among
us has been astonishing to behold. Truly it can be said,
"God is great, All the time!"
The years ahead promise to be filled with even greater opportunities
for bringing the churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County
together to do even greater acts of faith in Jesus name!
In doing so, we will be one step closer to living in harmony and
being able to call our community together to accepting and
living out the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. In 2002 the
Foellinger Foundation and Taylor University invited
Associated Churches to
participate in a three year time of study and planning. As
a result of our work and study in the "Institute for
Organizational Effectiveness", the Associated Churches
Board of Directors went on a retreat in 2003 with Kathy Carrier
of Briljent consulting firm as our consultant. A new
mission statement and a 5-year strategic plan were drafted by
the Board as the result of that time of prayer, discernment, and
meditation.
One of the main issues that the Board of Directors faced was
the lack of a permanent home for the mission and ministries of Associated
Churches. We had three different warehouse spaces for the
Food Bank System with the need for staff and volunteers often to
be at the same place without the ability to make that
happen. The old facility had become unsafe and as it was
built was ineffective for our uses. Therefore, we can fast
forward to 2006. After examining a number of sites
throughout the community, it was decided by the Board to build
two new facilities at our current site. Since that
decision was made, the land and buildings have been
purchased. The buildings have been torn down. An
architect firm (Grinsfelder Associates) has been chosen to give
direction to the vision that God has given us for the
future. A general contractor has been chosen, C.C.I. from
Fort Wayne. Star Bank has been selected to provide the
construction loan. Construction began in early
June, 2006. The buildings were completed in November,
2006. This was a most exciting time for
expanding our joint mission and ministry in Jesus name to our community.
The theme for the building campaign was "Building on the
Cornerstone of Faith." One of the reasons that we chose
the land on East Wayne Street to build is that it was Holy
Ground. Our Jewish brothers and sisters began their life
of faith, here, at this very spot. Before demolition, Associated
Churches returned the cornerstone of the building to the B'nai
Jacob congregation. It was now time for us to continue
God's work for this place. It was only fitting that the
Christian community show our belief in the East Central
Neighborhood and build these buildings on our cornerstone of
faith.
The Associated Churches Board of Directors, the Capital
Campaign Committee, and I, ask you to join
the community in prayer and with your financial gifts that will
share God's goodness and grace for many years to come.
Your gift will make Fort Wayne and Allen County the very best
place to life for all of God's people.
